The experimental film ‘I Shift I Turn’ is about an old steam engine which is still shifting and turning in the Textile Museum Tilburg everyday.
The machine from 1906 is not running on steam anymore, but is retired: driven by an electric motor it still makes its movements. These motions feel organic like an old man doing exercises. It inspired me to make a small portrait of the ongoing mechanics.
The film (9.03 min) is first shown at the 40th Open Air Film Festival of Weiterstadt in Germany, 12th of August 2016.
